Title:  Angel of Mercy, Angel of Death
Author: [ profile] alphaflyer
Rating:  T
Warnings:  war time violence

Summary: Clint Barton turns up in a refugee camp that is under attack -- but is he the answer to a prayer, or a just another nightmare? An aid worker's perspective.

Author's note: Sometimes it bears remembering what “master assassins” actually do for a living, and why the MCU goes to some pains to show us that being saved by the Avengers can be a distinctly mixed blessing. Inspired by the lyrics of Angel of Death, by HoneyHoney.

A companion piece, of sorts, to "In the Service".

Read it on AO3 or FFN

Soooooo, can I read this even if I haven't read In The Service? Which I didn't know existed until this very moment, and am going to bookmark once I hit send on this comment, buuuuut, non-bite-sized fic and me aren't friends lately, lol. /o\

Yes, you can. Knowing "In the Service" will just add an "aha" factor, but the salient incident is described in "Angel".

In the Service is actually four bite-sized fics; each chapter is essentially a separate story, but they are linked by a few common themes/threads. It's one of my personal favourites of mine, so I would love if you gave it a try! :-)

I see we are both supporters of my favorite charity. Why does this not surprise me? :) DWB/MSF is amazing and *this* is a freaking fantastic companion piece. In the Service is one of my favorites or yours.

Thank you for all of that! :-) I didn't know you had read "Service", so this is a bonus! it's one of my faves of mine too, because I wrote it while questioning my values as a public servant, and where my red lines would be. So it's quite personal to me, on many levels, and it makes me very happy that so many people seem to like it.

You're most welcome! Yes, I did indeed read Service and suck at leaving comments! *iz bad Anji* I've been so in my own head lately that I'm pretty much in Lurk mode. But I'm here and reading!

And you say things like this and more than anything I really really really want to get you in a bar, just the two of us, and talk and talk and talk. LOL
